Monday

two sides to one person

For this shoot my original idea was to use a jacket/skirt suit for the office look. However when my model turned up from work in her virgin Atlantic flight attendant uniform, it gave me a better idea. The shoot then related to the model even more then I had planned. Working all days and nights having only a few nights off to let her hair down. This became the true soul of the image. The image related to the model, because the photo sums up her life in 1 image.
Here are a few images from this shoot...

The fact the model is slowly undressing, shows her transformation into her alter ego,  her alter ego is the person she becomes when she doesn’t have to be respectable at work.

Being one person at work, and one away from work is one of the more common alter ego traits. Some people put on this disguise to impress people all the time; some may not even know they are doing it, as to most it comes naturally. However this is looked at as having an alter ego.

every angle is the same

My original model for this shoot, unfortunately couldn’t make the shoot, luckily one of my friends stepped in at last min to help out.  This taught me to always have a backup, even if you don’t need one, its better to be safe then sorry.  Overall the shoot went well and I got the result I was looking for.

I§ had to do a lot of re-touching on the background of the image to remove the creases from the backdrop. Unfortunately this was the only black backdrop I could use on the day. However a litter re-touch here n there and the final image came out  just as  I hoped.

2 sides of oneself

During the shoot, I came across quite a few hurdles; one was the positioning of the model. Trying to position each pose the way I could see it in my head and explaining to my model was the hard part, as with the lighting also it would create a shadow, where I did not want a shadow. However I stuck to my guns and in the end came out with quite a few good images.

Heres a few test images from my shoot....

This image, is an example of the lighting and the shadow problem I had.

hiding behind a mask....

I think out of all the shoots I did I enjoyed this one the most… as my model Siobhan Porter, has previous drama experience she wasn’t afraid to let loose and scream on demand… working with a patterned back drop also helped with the final look of the image as it helps the mask and model really stand out.

shoot analysis

For this shoot, the hardest thing had to be the re touching, lining up both faces came as a struggle, however configuring with my tutor helped me learn how to do this, which over all turned out ok.
The model for this shoot Annabel Winchester had the perfect hair colour for the shoot as red stands out from either blonde or brunette.

Tuesday

its all just music and lyrics...

some songs are obvious with the lyrics and just straight up sing about their alter ego like for example Blu Nyle, with the song Alter Ego...

however their are some that do have hidden meanings within the song, the lyrics are screaming for their alter ego to come out and save them, however never really asking...

Jessie J with the song Who You Are, relates to herself and her alter ego... putting on a disguise that sometimes she cant even recognise herself.

song lyrics all in some way have hidden meanings....

can someone else bring out your alter ego???

LOVE... was is love?
Some say that finding your soul mate, is like finding your second self... which in this case is like finding your alter ego.
In my book i did a couples shoot... they explained to me before i did the shoot how when they met each other it was like they found themselves. they both became a different person. like being with each other brought out a side of them they didn't know they had. Like an alter ego.

this behaviour however isn't uncommon. A lot of people end up changing who they are without even knowing that they are doing it.
this is another classic alter ego trait that goes unnoticed...

tattoos....

When speaking to a few of my friends, they say that their tattoos are a way of expressing themselves without saying anything. They can express themselves through tattoos, almost like an alter ego. One of my images shows this side of an alter ego.
Throughout this book i changed my mind so much on which alter egos i wanted to uncover. By the end of it, i figured out that i covered most of them... but not the obvious kinds.
i wanted to stay away from the typical Angel/Devil theme and look deeper inside. By using tattoos as tho its an alter ego is something i never even thought of before one of my friends mentioned it. looks like my research is paying off....

Tattoos can just be something pretty on the skin, however, most do have greater meanings...

A tear drop tattoo is said to have a range of different meanings, This kind of tattoo can be dated back even as early as 1940s and used by gang members. If a person is wearing a tattoo it can mostly mean either of three things. You can also check the design to have a better understanding of what the tattoo is trying to tell you. One of the meanings is that the wearer was convicted of murder or he lost someone very dear to him. Many have associated tattoos to people who were imprisoned and if you see someone from prison with a teardrop, you can make your best assumption that he killed someone. In lieu of this, the wearer who has several teardrops, one following the other, this can actually mean that he was convicted of multiple killings. For conviction of murder, you will find that the design of the teardrop tattoo is closed and colored. In one article, it said that in the 1920s, this tattoo was already existent and that the original meaning was that the wearer lost a loved one. This kind of tattoo is not colored inside. The most recent kind of teardrop tattoo is one that is half filled, this is the third meaning of the tattoo in that the wearer lost someone that he or she loved and took revenge on the person. To note, teardrop tattoos can also be a way to mark which gang you’re affiliated with.

Art history expert, Andrea Mulder-Slater, defines a symbol as "a picture or image that tells a story without using words." It has been suggested that symbols such as cave paintings and carvings were man's earliest forms of communication.
