Referencing music..

In the rock opera Green days American idiot, one of the main characters, johnny, has an alter ego named St Jimmy, who gets him into drugs and all sorts of trouble.

Eminems alter ego Marshal Mather's is often displayed in most of his music videos, he refers to him self as a different unstable person.

Beyonces alter ego got reviled in her last album she did this by naming the album 'I am Sasha Fearce'

Lady gaga recently reviled her alter ego 'Joe' at the MTV Music awards in 2011. Changing the sex of your alter ego is an extreme case. During her interview she talks about her self as a different person and doesn't answer to any name but Joe. When people ask her about herself she says that they are friends.

Ideas for photo shoot...

This is a perfect hair idea for one of my shoots... Dominatrix styling mixed with abit of mime. Hiding behind a mask. The quote for this shoot is...'the face you see isn't always the real me, just a mask to hide Wat's underneath'.
Hair- blond, up in a ponytail with black material tied round the end to give it height.
Makeup- fair skin, red lipstick, red blush, enhanced eyebrows, black eyeliner and lashes, black tear drop on the right cheek.
Shoot- studio shoot, head and shoulder.
Model- Siobhan Porter.
Clothing- red spotted Bow tie.
Props- a white mask with the same makeup as on the face.

the hair in this image inspired me as i really like the fact the hair stands up off the head rather then just handing down like normal pony tails do. i feel it will also make the image look more effective.

the use of masks in the image, is perfect for my photo shoot, as the quote states that the model hides behind a mask, and people dint know the real her.

the part of this image i used was the tear drop on the eye. i used this to symbolise sadness and the model being upset.

red lips, i feel in most shoots are effective. they show passion, and sexiness even if the image isn't resembling it.

super heroes and their alter egos...

Super heroes and their secret identities are oftenconsidered alter ego.

Superman assumes the identity of the mill mannered newspaperreporter ‘Clark Kent’ in order to live among the citizens of Metropolis without arousing suspicion. Where as Clarks true self is in fact Superman.

Batman is a character created by Bruce Wayne, order todisguise him for the purpose of fighting crime. Batman comics and movies, such as batman begins have explored the themeof the true self (Wayne) becoming lost or giving himself over to the alter egothat if batman. Much like the plot of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

Superman becomes the person that Clark Kent adopts in orderto freely use his gift to hep the world with out jeopardizing his family andfriends. Controversially, carefree playboy billionaire Bruce Wayne becomes thealter ego necessary to hide the true person of the crime-fighting batman.

The incredible hulk comic book series and movies furthercomplicates this theme as Bruce Banner loses control to the Hyde-like-hulkwhenever he becomes angry, yet he also depends on the hulks super powers inorder to combat villains. 

Comic book inspired alter egos can be seen in other forms ofpopular fiction, including television, and movies adaptations of comic books,parodies of genre and unrelated fictions such as star wars and angel.

so what is an alter ego?

An alter ego is said to be a second self, which is believed to be distinct from a persons normal or original personality. The term was coined in the early nineteenth century when psychologists first described dissociated identity disorder.

An alter ego is also said to relate to a persons behaviour which may be displayed in a certain situation such as happy/sad nice/evil angry/joyful

as you can see by the image, an alter ego is like 2 sides to the same coin. a yin and yang some would say.
