Overall view on FMP…

I feel like the overall production with my book and website went better then I expected. Even though I did start off slow I picked it up and got everything I wanted to do and it was finished in the nick of time. I asked a few people from different backgrounds on their opinion of my finished book and website so I could get a range of different opinions; overall the feedback I got was positive as they could tell what the main focus of the project was. This was my biggest worry, I was worried that it didn’t make sense and people wouldn’t understand what I was trying to achieve within the project and the information I wanted to portray to the viewer, however without telling people my main focus they all seemed to understand it was about alter egos and how it related to people with alter egos and the fact it showed different characteristics to the alto ego world.

Reflective Journal...

In all honestly the thing I feel like I neglected the most within my project was my reflective journal but as you can see by the end of it I tried to recap on everything I did and reflect upon my work. By adding videos and examples of peoples alter egos I tried to make it look more interesting instead of just writing what I did and providing a picture, I wanted my journal to tell a story of what I have been doing for the last 12 weeks and see how I have progressed within my research and my ability to produce a book and a website on a chosen subject. Due to the fact I neglected my journal at the beginning, I had to make it so it reflects upon what I did back then not on what I did that day, past rather than present.

A real life alter ego...

While I was at work last night I discovered a real life alter ego. There is a girl who comes into the club junk most of the time and always shows signs of her being quite shy and timid, working behind the desk you get to recognise regular faces. Now this girl has no reason to be so unconfident, she’s pretty and from what I can tell looks respectable within the way she dresses. However, last night the same girl entered the club with a believable blonde wig on, now judging from her behaviour she seemed like a different girl, she was more confident and had a crowd presence. I decided to chat to the girl about her different look and she answered with the following statement “if I go out as the same old me I cant be confident, I just don’t have it in me... but if I put on my wig and pretend to be someone else for the night, I don’t have to be me I can be anyone I want to. I’ve got a number of wigs at home I wear when I go out so I can interact with people and just have fun; I don’t have to worry about the shy me that I normally am.” I was amazed, I had done so much research about alter egos and people changing who they are to be more confident but I had never actually witnessed it in person.  This I think was the icing on the cake to my project as I got to meet a real life alter ego

Sunday

My very own Nicki Minaj….

One of my friends Rachael Akanni, is my very own Nicki Minaj, she changes her hair every week to get both a new look and to portray a new image….

I decided to do a little interview on her to see the real story behind all her looks and see if somewhere down the line she does this to satisfy her alter ego…

Interview:

Q. Why do you change your hair so much?

A. I just like showing my work through myself as an artist, it’s just a way of me being creative, and my image defines who I am. Also by looking at me you can tell what I’m into.

Q. Do you feel your personality changes with each hairstyle you have?

A. Yes, I find that with short hair I feel more mature and more confident within the things I set out to do. Weather that changes my personality I don’t know however it makes me feel different, it makes me feel like I can be anything.

Q. Do you feel you get treated differently with a certain hairstyle?

A. Yeah like for example when I’m at work, the client respects me more when I have short hair, however when I have long hair or my natural hair I get treated like a kid and I don’t get respected within my job role.

Q. When you change your hair will you do it for a certain occasion for example when your going out do u like looking a certain way to if your at work?

A. When I go to work I like looking perfect. Top me I feel that if my hair doesn’t look good, then who am I to do someone else’s. If my hair looks fine then people will feel trustworthy when I’m doing their hair. However when I go out I like standing out from the crowd. So if that means going out in a pink will then I will. Its like if my hair is different I feel like this other person.

From this interview you can see that Rachael changes her hair to become this other person, weather it’s to be treated with respect or become more confident. This in fact is a common alter ego trait, changing ones self to become something or someone else.

below is a link which shows Racheal reinventing herself on her own personal website...

website finally working...

So I’ve figured out it’s the Internet, which wasn’t working, so I tried it on Google chrome and all is well… panic over

Last few days…

Right so I’ve started freaking out a little bit… my website which I created seems to be not working. Arghhhhh... Every time I try and view the website it looks like this…
Differently not something I want to be seeing 2 days before hand in, but hopefully its to do with the internet and not the website... Fingers crossed.
One good thing is that I know its completed and so I don’t have to worry about finishing it off. Now its all about finishing off my Evaluation and having some last checks to make sure I haven’t missed anything.

aims...

My overall aims for this FMP was to explore the world of the alter ego and share it with the rest of the world in a look book and an easy to use website complete with video footage and pictures, to interest the viewer.
I feel like I set out to achieve this and ended up achieving my goal. I feel my website explains alter ego traits and over all does what I set out for it to do.
With my book I did however want to use more images and examples but however my time management was miss judged at the beginning of the project and I didn’t get to achieve my goal, however I am happy with the book I produced, and with the website as well it works as a whole and not as two separate projects.

Website:

Now my website is finished i decided to start promoting it over social networking sites such as twitter, face book and also my blog http://masquedemaquillage.blogspot.co.uk/  i did this so people i know will look at it and also share it with their friends and family, this then will hopefully get the website some more views and i can gain feedback on the site. I put the contact page on my website so people can share their alter ego experiences with me or if they have any questions about the site they can contact me and i will be happy to help them get the information they are after.

out and about...

Each time i venture out either into town for a bit of shopping or to other destinations i always try and look out for things which relate to alter egos, this i found quite difficult as not many things about have an alter ego look to it... I did how ever find some things which related.

the fashion interchange...

On Friday I ventured down to the fashion interchange @ the Hilton hotel, that was organized by the fashion management and marketing 3rd years. I found it to be extremely helpful with my website, although my website is not fashion based the guest speakers; Karronnie Robertson, Jamie Smith, Stephen Laundy, Katie Friedlander-Boss and Sarah Jones were very helpful when explaining how the layouts of websites have to match your chosen market base.
Overall I learnt a lot about of the fashion industry and also what it’s exactly like to work out in the industry.  Even though it was mainly about visual merchandising and e-commerce it helped me get a better insight into the industry as you do have a set job to do and have to impress more people than just yourself.

Thursday

almost due date...

Right so it’s Thursday and my due date is Tuesday… right now it’s all looking good, everything is finished so it’s all about looking back and checking over everything… also writing my evaluation.

So if I carry on I could get it finished by Sunday/Monday so that means no last minute panicking and mistakes.

Real life alter egos....

For the real life part of my website i decided to get pictures of celebrities who have alter egos, some of the pictures are also linked up to videos so the viewer can get a better insight into that certain persons alter ego. It has to be said that Lady Gaga has most defiantly had the most extreme Alter ego transformation, by changing sex, she isn’t just gaining confidence or acting out, she has transformed herself into a completely different person, and Joe is the name of her new found alter ego. Each image has a short description which relates to picture and states the differences between the original self and the alter ego. This i feel helps the viewer get a better understanding instead of me just putting up pictures. Describing the differences will be more helpful.  Also I have included short videos for each image which relates to their own personal alter ego.

face chart...

Model: Gamma Smith
Skin tone: Olive
Skin type: Combination Oily and Normal

Makeup:
·      Black Rimmel liquid eyeliner
·      Mac foundation 6.0
·      Screen face pink blush
·      Black Rimmel eyebrow pencil
·      Mac Smokey eye kit
·      False effect feather eye lashes
·      Brown mac lipstick, New York Apple

This was an easy shoot as it was a shoot for the model, who in fact asked me to do the makeup for her portfolio. This worked out well for both of us because I got my image for my final major project and she got her portfolio created. Using a professional photographer also meant my image got edited for me, I did however get the original images, but I was extremely happy with the way Kelly edited it so I was more than happy to use the finished image. The makeup and hair for this shoot was simple as the main focus was the tattoos, the makeup was already planned out so all I had to do was follow the brief, which worked out well for me as the model didn’t want an extreme makeup so the attention was kept on the tattoos. One problem however was getting the final images, as I produced them in Leeds just before Easter I couldn’t just go and collect them; I have to wait for the images to be sent to me.  One week turned into two, when I started panicking. These images were the only ones I had left to but in my book to complete it. Luckily after weeks of nagging I finally got sent the images, and was more than happy to include them in my book. This did teach me to organize better with my contacts and also if you ask enough times it does eventually work.

Model: Annabel Winchester
Skin tone: Light
Skin type: Combination dry and normal

Makeup:
·      Black Rimmel liquid eyeliner
·      Mac foundation 2.0
·      Screen face red blush
·      Brown Rimmel eyebrow pencil
·      Mac Smokey eye kit
·      False effect feather eye lashes
·      Green and black ‘screen face’ face paint

For this shoot I had to create two different looks. One was simple makeup no bright colours, simple hair or fake eyelashes, and one was extreme makeup, big eye lashes, bold colours and curly done up hair. While preparing for this shoot I considered how I wanted the final image to look, and based it round that. I found it quite difficult to get the prop of the flyer over the face where I wanted it positioned as I didn’t want to create a shadow... by moving the light source I could avoid the shadow and still get a nice light on the face. Overall the production of the image, although it was tricky with the lighting turned out well. The re-touching on this image was the hard part. I had to line up both images with each other so it looked like one image... lining up the nose and mouth was tricky as the images were taken from different angles, I realised from this that it would of been simpler if I had used a tri-pod to take the image, then they would of lined up as the camera would of been kept at the same angle.

Overall this was my favourite shoot to do, the model worked extremely well with the image guidelines that I explained to her.  All I really knew with this shoot was the makeup and hair I wanted and the fact we were going to use a make which had on the same makeup as the model. The outcome of the layout of the image was yet to be decided. We tried a number of different backdrops, angles and facial expressions. Some laughing, some crying, some screaming and some angry, a lot of emotion got let out in this shoot, although because the model has a drama background it was all fun and games. In the end I decided on a screaming picture, as the scream was real it looks effective for the image, and relates to the quote nicely. Not much retouching was done with this image as it simply didn’t need it, the lighting was setup perfectly as I followed someone else’s shoot, so some of the production was done for me. One problem I did find with this shoot was the hair... getting it to stand up off the head was the tricky part, I originally wanted it sticking up right off the head, however it didn’t matter what I did it just kept falling down. The biggest I got it was the highest it would go, but over all I think it still looked effective and worked with the overall image.
